About Carmen, OSE and our audition formatsOSE are performing Verdi's Carmen in English on Friday 21st & Saturday 22nd of April 2023 at the White Rock Theatre, Hastings.
We will be auditioning for the principal roles on Sunday 4 December 2022 at St John's Church Hall, Brittany Road, St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex TN38 0RD, tentatively from 1:30pm-5:30pm. Apply here on the form to the left by Saturday 26th November and you will be informed of your personal audition time a week before (28th November). We also very much welcome new members of the chorus - see Join us and Contact us. ![]() Rehearsal background: Our normal rehearsal schedules are mostly on Sunday afternoons and/or evenings in St Leonard’s-on-Sea (a 10-15 minute walk from St Leonards Warrior Square station). First, there’s several weeks of chorus music-only rehearsals with our very able music director, Kenneth Roberts. Then our performance director, Fraser Grant, takes over most of the rehearsal time for subsequent weeks to explain to us the style of performance he is aiming for, and performance rehearsals start. One thing to watch out for is the intensity of rehearsals in the final performance week. You will be required on the Sunday, all afternoon and evening, then on the Monday evening we meet with the orchestra for the first time (the Sitzprobe), then you will be required to be in the theatre from 6pm every evening onwards in show-week for Technical rehearsal on the Tuesday, two dress rehearsals and two performances. It’s quite a week but great fun, if not a bit hard work.
