Biography - Gary Marriott
(tenor)
Gary is well-known on the East Sussex music scene in a number of guises. In the operatic world he has performed with Pavilion Opera, Opera South East and Cameo Opera in works as diverse as La Boheme, The Barber of Seville, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, Dido and Aeneas, Sweeney Todd, Die Fledermaus and most of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.
Gary also has many oratorios and religious works in his repertoire, singing regularly with The Grove Singers, Bexhill, Seaford and Battle Choral Societies and Winchelsea Singers.
For many years Gary worked in mental health services and since retirement from this field has continued with “Tune up Tuesdays”, a regular singing group which meets for enjoyment and well-being in Hastings. He has recently got back to the clarinet after 40 years neglect and on a horticultural note, is mildly optimistic and very excited about his wild meadow.
Recent singing projects have included Mozart's Requiem in Alfriston; Mendelssohn's Elijah in Deal and Bach's St Matthew Passion with Battle Choral Society.
This lockdown period has provided Gary with time and opportunity to pursue some of his more “at home” activities (like practising the clarinet, making bread and doing the garden) but he is desperately looking forward to being back with friends, singing and making music together.
